Alumni Back To His Roots

Ravi Guna, 24, was at Management Development Institute of Singapore’s (MDIS) studio on May 11,2016 to talk to the Media Club members about his journey to being the DJ of Singapore’s very own Tamil radio station, Oli 96.8FM. Being an alumni himself, he had the objective of motivating the students as well as telling his stories from his life in MDIS to being one of Mediacorp’s ethnic DJs.

The bespectacled radio DJ clad in a denim jacket and orange jeans was skillful in capturing the attention of the Media Club students when recalling about the struggles he had to go through. Despite only carrying a diploma certificate, the talented Guna was selected for the said radio station and was ranked one of the top in the competition.

Obviously not without going through numerous rounds of auditions that were grueling to no end. Yet, the 24-year-old still persevered on. He said, “When there's an opportunity that comes up once in a blue moon, you grab it not with one hand, but two."

Guna also revealed that he struggles with dyslexia causing him to make slight mistakes if not prepared. Due to this, he tried to overcome his disability and worked even harder to improve. He told the students the reason for his diligence was, "At the end of day, when you see your end product, the joy is endless." He also advised them to not worry about certifications. But more of molding your skills and portfolio right now.

The alumni explained that he felt like giving up at times due to the exhausting hours of work and the preparations he had to make. Quitting was an option he thought of as an escape from the strenuous line of work. Yet, he tried to remember the root of his passion and the reason for all his hard work to get to where he is.

Now, he not only is the radio DJ of Oli 96.8FM, he is also a TV host for Vasantham’s Thirai Talkies.
