Art: Yip Yew Chong, Photo: Made Anthony Iswara

Whether it is on the walls in a crowded restaurant or the skate park in your nearby neighbourhood, people probably have witnessed what is commonly called “graffiti”. Street art – otherwise known as mural art – is a form of painting that has evolved from graffiti. Here’s our top 4 picks on what we think is the most unique street arts in Singapore.

1. The Stickers That Gets Your Goat. As you stroll through Kim Cheng Street, a sticker of a goat catches your attention with an amusing smile as if it is lightly chuckling at those who passes by the road. Then, as you walk further down to Seng Poh Road, another goat – a bigger one to be precise - awaits you. Like his other friend, he also looks at you with an intriguing smile. Don’t they get your goat?

2. Relax, kid!

When it comes to street art, size is not usually the most important factor. But with this almost two-story sized painting, the little girl that is comfortable in her stop looks leisurely at Bugis street every day.

3. The Quietest Market

Being one of Yip Yew Chong’s “Walkabout With YC” project, “Pasar and the Fortune Teller” depicts Tiong Bahru with a touch of nostalgia. On one side, an elderly is shown consulting with a fortune teller that brought her equipments with her. On the other side, a crowded scene of Tiong Bahru’s market evokes memories of one of the deep roots of Singapore. “I get a lot of older Singapore telling me they can nostalgic recognise the scenes,” told Chong in an article on Straits Times.

4. The Force Within The Walls

It’s one thing to love Star Wars, but it’s another thing to put them on a wall. Located in the art hub of Sultan Arts Village, this mural painting of Yoda reminds us why he’s the boss. Just right next to it, a clone soldier appears to express its creative self. Make art, not war, Star Wars!
