Hari Raya, the Season of Empathy Optimization

Burp! Sorry; our Muslim friends must be bowel bulged right now, since the festive season of Hari Raya has just begun with Puasa where they end their fasting period, with the horde of tantalisingly delicious feast of Serunding, Satay, Ketupat, Rendang, Nasi Lemak, Asam Pedas, Sayur Lodeh, Lemang, etc. Hungry, right?
Living in a multicultural society by embracing differences not only has its own perks, but also manifests diversified unity amongst us the people. It is our friends’ festival, our neighbours' festival and so we must adhere to the formal structure without curtailing the respect we have for their cultural differences.
Now, it is time to talk about the what nots’, with special appearances from our very own talents in the Media Club!

1Normally, people do not expect gifts from the guests, it’s always subjective. So, if anyone wants to provide the host with a gift during Hari Raya, then sweets and kueh will be immaculate. Non-Halal food is highly prohibited.
2 In addition to #1, Tequila, wine, cider or any other form of alcohol must not be included, it will go under zero tolerance.

3 To be eager to eat or not to be, that is the question.

4 Anything that is black should be avoided. 5 It is not really necessary for the guests to wear the traditional Malay clothes, it might be appreciated if you make an effort, but in the end, it is ones’ own decision. 6 If you worry about what clothes to wear and which would be more appropriate, fret not! Wearing a western casual cloth is acceptable! However, female guests must remember not to wear anything that is too revealing! And male guests can make an exception at least for this specific day, not to wear the surpassingly trendy ripped jeans. Although it is still a mystery to me how it remains trendy, hmm!

7 "Assalamualaikum" (Peace be upon you) is the traditional greeting when visiting homes. It is not really a problem if you are not informed of the traditional greetings or able to pronounce it, a simple ‘Happy Hari Raya’ would please your hosts and is more than enough. Seriously.

8 Traditionally, green packets or envelopes are filled with money and given to those who are not employed. However, if you are...
