STGCC 2017 - The Ultimate Review

(Singapore Toys, Games and Comics Convention) STGCC 2017 kicked off this year at Marina Bay Sands on the 9th and 10th of September, occupying three hall spaces with a wide range of guests ranging from comic artists all the way to cosplay guests.

The entire hall was split up into seven different sections, each of them with their own unique theme - Exclusively Yours, Pop-fun, Main Stage, Artist Galore, Star Wars, Akiba Zone, and Good Game Experience (GGXP).

Starting from the front, Exclusively Yours housed a wide array of action figures from across the globe. Companies both big and small set up booths to display and sell their wide range of action figures. Even the booths in the corner had things that caught the interests of many, one that especially stood out for me was a graphic design tee-shirt shop that sold shirts that were absolutely adorable (www.teeturtle.com)! Furthermore, this corner was not the only place with action figures! The entire exhibition hall was littered with action figures both big and small that’s famous across the globe!

Pop-Fun housed a range of different things, from familiar names like Action City and Animate. There was also a massive snack booth selling a wide range of snacks from different countries for decently cheap prices, even snacks that is not usually found in Singapore can also be found at the booth!

The Main Stage was teemed with activity all throughout the convention. Live drawing sessions by famous artists, talent showcases, talks, previews and performances lined up back-to-back going non-stop from start to end, providing a constant flow of entertainment for the weary souls who needed a break, or inspiration for the up and coming artists!

Artist Galore was no let-down with the wide range of famous artists in the Walk of Fame, to the Artist Ally that never fails to quench the thirst of the ever-fanatic fans.

The Star Wars: Experience the Force section of the exhibition was the main highlight of the exhibition theme, and was filled with fans anxious to take pictures of the massive displays that had been set up and the many stormtroopers that littered the area. There was even a booth specifically to take pictures with the ever adorable BB8.

Moving on to Akiba Zone, the main stage here was lively throughout the day with pop idols dancing and singing on the stage. This was also where the well-known cosplay guests were and several booths were set up to allow fans to take pictures with them! The entertainment guests that were invited had also set up their booths to pedal their wares.

Finally, the biggest section of the convention, the GGXP contained a massive number of game related companies ranging from large to small, all displaying their flagship, and even upcoming games. The colosseum was packed full of board game enthusiasts all happy to pit their custom decks against each other. The many shops around didn’t lose out, providing even new players a chance to start their own deck or current players to improve their deck (luck be on their side!).

Speaking of luck! The many gatcha counters and machines that littered the convention contained numerous easter eggs for fans ( or victims xp) to test their luck! While many tried their luck, few would went home a king’s bounty, but no one left empty handed.
