Hitting up LAN Gaming Rooms - The Basic How-To

Remember the days when our classmates would visit the gaming computer centres and sit in front of the monitor for hours long, engaging in numerous online battles that leave you baffled? In that case, why would you spend six hours at a computer centre instead of the comfort of your own home?

Well, contrary to the fact that gaming rooms were a hot trend many years ago, many teens and adults alike still visit the good ol’ centres to war with virtual pals.

Think you fancy popping by a gaming shop one day but not sure what to expect or do? Lucas Ashwin Clamence, an adept gamer and a veteran in LAN gaming rooms, has five practical tips to get you started on your gaming room lifestyle.

1) Most LAN shops require you to pay a one time membership fee

Most LAN shops do, otherwise they charge you by the hour, or 3hr-package deals. Make those minutes/hours count! Also, don’t forget to take eye-breaks.

2) Getting caught surfing pornography is not cool

So maybe let’s all do everyone’s eyes and ears a favor and keep this to ourselves, possibly within vicinity of our homes. After all, almost everyone goes to LAN to poke fun at each other in their virtual caves. Why not live in the moment and do just that instead?

3) Learn to set the sensitivity of the mouse to your liking

Because we all want that mouse to react just the way we want to. Your mouse may ricochet to the end of the screen with just a small flick of your wrist. Let’s not even get into the various types of mouses there are.

4) Check if the LAN shop has the game you wanna play if you don't see anyone playing it

Want to play a game that strays from the mainstream DOTA, Counter-strike, League of Legends etc but no one in the room seems to be playing it? Don’t be discouraged, go on in and just ask the friendly staff. Worst comes to worst, check the next gaming room down the road. They’re bound to have that game you’ve been itching to try.

5) Wipe the keyboard and mouse before playing.

Germs. Germs. Germs. Need i say more? You have no idea where the hands of the last player went. If you’re overly conscious...it would be too weird bring your own keyboard and mouse - we’re not even sure if that’s allowed! Some gaming rooms do, some don’t. Otherwise, doesn’t it seem easier to bring antIseptic wipes?
