A Mug of Lavender Hot Chocolate for a Cozy Winter

Winter season is here! Which in Singapore terms means, rainy weather. Otherwise known as the “monsoon” period, this season always happens at the end of the year where it will be cool breezy and filled with glorious rain after the raging hot sun.

So, what is the most popular activity during the heavy rain for most individuals? My guess is to sit at home wrapped up in something warm and comfy sipping a nice piping-hot beverage.

Aside from the local favorite which is no doubt a cup of hot sweet milo or hot chocolate, I often find myself getting sick of the richness and creaminess before I even feel satisfied or even reach the bottom of the cup! (Just my opinion though) After some experimenting here and there, here is my recipe which still has the same richness and creaminess with a floral twist to make it all a little more bearable for me.

This recipes serves 2-3 people generously:

Here’s what you will need:

Lavender Hot Chocolate:

• 2 1/2 cups of Whole Milk

• 1/2 cup of Heavy Cream

• 1 tablespoon of Condense Milk

• 4 tablespoons of sifted Cocoa Powder

• 3/4 cup of chopped Bittersweet Chocolate

• 1 drop of Lavender Oil

• 1 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

TIP: If you find the mixture too creamy and thick for your liking, add 1/2 cup of Hot Water to make it thinner.

Instructions:

1. Pour the milk and heavy cream into a small pot and slowly heat it up. (DO NOT let it boil for too long as the creams will split and everything has to be done again.)

2. Take milk and cream off heat and add the sifted cocoa powder, condense milk, vanilla extract, and bittersweet chocolate and let it sit for a minute or use a whisk to mix everything together for a smoother and creamy texture.

3. Add the lavender oil* and heat up again on low heat, stirring constantly until mixture is heated up.

4. Get some whip cream to top it off and enjoy!

*Take caution! Add only the amount required in this recipe. If you feel the need to add more, dip a tip of the chop stick into the oil and mix it into the hot chocolate. If too much is added it will ruin the taste of the hot chocolate.
