Counting down the number of days left before embarking on a clean slate of a year, Christmas is finally around the corner. Despite having a plethora of tradition and customs, there is one common sight found in every household. A wide array of Christmas feast with its smell wafting in the air!
Albeit not knowing when exactly is Jesus Christ's birth date, the Bishop of Rome ordered the birthday of The Christ child be celebrated as a solemn feast in 137 AD and henceforth, the Christmas Feast is mandatory.
Taking place any time from the evening of Christmas Eve to the evening of Christmas itself, Christmas feast is a meal traditionally eaten with family, friends and relatives. The meals are particularly rich in flavour, in the tradition of the Christian Feast celebration, and marking a significant part held to celebrate Christmas.
In different parts of the world, the feast prepared might vary due to the fact that each household has its own cuisine and traditional food. In India, the usual turkey with stuffing is replaced with roast chicken and "Kheer", boiled jasmine rice cooked with milk, sugar, saffron and is garnished with a variety of nuts. In France, they have the " Thirteen desserts" which is the traditional dessert served during Christmas. The Christmas supper ends with 13 dessert items, representing The Lord and the 12 apostles.
Germany, Spain, South Africa, Philippines and many more. Every household living in their respective country has its own traditional feast heavily influenced by its culture. Despite the different food served, Christmas is still cherish by many with their joyful spirit.
