During spring season, what strikes your mind? Do you think of stunning mountains, beautiful lakes and cold wind blowing in your hair? When you think of these mesmerizing places, which country comes into mind? Switzerland? Austria? Maybe even Canada. However, none of them even comes close to the stunning beauty of New Zealand. Hidden away in New Zealand’s South Island is the small town of Queenstown. Found in 1853, the first European to set foot in Queenstown was Nathanael Chalmers. Its distinctive name was given in reference to the Irish city of the same name.

An epitome of beauty, the town boasts one of the, if not, the best mountain ranges of the world. Situated at the shore line of Lake Wakatipu, the resort town offers a wide range of activities. Skiing and snowboarding, jet boating, white-water rafting, bungee jumping, mountain biking, skateboarding, tramping, paragliding, skydiving and fly fishing are all popular. Queenstown is also a major centre for snow sports in New Zealand, with people from all over the country and many parts of the world travelling to ski at the four main mountain ski fields.

Food in Queenstown is described as “out of this world”. A burger joint in the heart of Queenstown called Fergburger, makes burgers to warm the hearts of nations. Fergburger has certainly won its place in burger heaven! Personally, I tried a tofu-falafel burger stuffed with halloumi cheese and avocado. It was as if the God of Burgers came down to Earth and created Fergburger as a place of worship. I loved each and every inch of the burger that I ordered a second one, and a third one and devoured them both instantly. Needless to say, I had just blown my dinner money down the drain, but it was worth every single penny!

The surrounding villages of Wanaka, Arrowtown and Glenorchy are also extremely famous. The 45-minute drive from Queenstown to the town of Glenorchy is one of the most scenic routes in the whole world. Glenorchy gained recognition from a few famous films such as Lord of The Rings, The Hobbit and the Bollywood movie, Kaho Na Pyaar Hai being filmed there. It is also famous for its boatshed, The Glenorchy House which has become an Instagram icon. Glenorchy doesn’t house the only Instagram icon in the Land of the Kiwis. Another Instagram icon is located in Wanaka, with the famous Wanaka Tree floating in the southern banks of the Wanaka Lake.

Queenstown in spring time is a very serene and tranquil place. The weather is cool enough to wear a simple sweater. All in all, the resort town is a beautiful place to go on any sort of holiday, be it your honeymoon or just a simple getaway. It will burn a significant hole in your pocket but in my opinion, it is worth every cent to enjoy this precious time with your loved ones in a distant, fairy tale-esque, far away land.
