Summer Care Tips for The Furry Ones

Finally, it is time to hit the beach, relax and pamper yourself. Yes, it is summer time!

It is also the time when we need to take extra care of our skin and body. And just like us, our little furry companions too, need some extra pampering and care in the hot weather.

Summers are the time when you want to go outdoors, play and spend more time with your furry pals (who doesn't want to). But these are also the times when our pets are more prone to allergies and dehydration.

Here are few tips for you, to make your pets feel more loved this summer.

First things first! Make sure to plan a visit to a veterinarian and get an early-summer checkup done for your pets. Rising temperatures can increase the chances of infections for your pals. Therefore, make sure to schedule your appointments with the veterinarian more often during summers. Also consult your veterinarian of prescriptions for fleas and heartworms which can easily infect your pal during summer.

2. Keep them Cool

Also keep a check on any symptoms of heat stress such as diarrhea, vomiting, heavy panting or difficulty in breathing and weakness. If you find them over-heated, then quickly take them to a cool place and wrap them with a damp towel or cloth. Take them to the veterinarian immediately if you see any of the symptoms stated above. When talking of heat stress, never (and we mean never ever!) leave your pets in a car on their own as it can lead to a fatal heat stroke.

3. Keep them Hydrated

Do you know your pets can get dehydrated quickly? Well, now you know. Always make sure that they drink plenty of clean water. Do not keep them out in sun for long. Whenever you are out with your pet during day time, keep them near to a shaded place. If it is too sunny and humid outside, then it is better to keep them inside the house.

4. Take a Dip

I know during summers we cannot resist ourselves from taking a dip be it in a swimming pool or ocean. But when you are doing that with your little fur balls always take extra precautions of their safety, even more if they cannot swim. Never leave them unattended. Always give them a bath and clean them up after swimming to wash off any chlorine or salt from their fur.

5. Get them Groomed

Just like us, our pets too need grooming. And in summers they need it even more. But if you're considering of trimming their hairs short then be careful and do not shave them. The furs on our pets acts as a protective layer which prevents their skin from getting burned up by sun. It also helps in regulating their body temperature.

Also, do not forget to take good care of their diet and ensure that they get proper vaccinations from time to time.

And lastly give them as much of your love and care as possible. Keep them healthy and happy and enjoy your summer with your best pal.

You're welcome!
