Did you know that Mother's Day celebrations date back to Ancient Greece and Rome? Yes, that

is how old these celebrations really are! In most of the countries including Singapore, we

celebrate Mother's Day on the second Sunday of May. However, in some countries they follow

different traditions and ways in which they celebrate and honour their mothers. How about we find out?

In Mexico Mother's Day is known as “Día de las Madres” and is celebrated on May 10. And the fun fact is, if May 10 happens to be a weekday, some workplaces let their employees leave early so that they can spend time with their dear moms. Also, there is a tradition where the whole family gathers to spend time together on May 9 (Mother's Day eve). The festivities include children bringing flowers, presents and cards for their mom and singing their traditional song 'Las Mananitas.'

Mother's Day or 'El Dia de la Madre' is celebrated on the first Sunday of May in Spain. It was

originally, however, celebrated in December. Children in Spain start preparing for it weeks

before, by making cards or writing letters for their moms. They wake up early morning on this

day and present their letters and cards to their Mother. Isn't that sweet?

In Philippines mothers are considered 'ilaw ng tahanan,' meaning 'light of the home.' This title

is certainly apt for them as mothers give their children all the love, they guide us, support us and

spend their whole life taking care of us. That is why in Philippines Mother's Day is celebrated

twice, in December and in May. It is the time when families spend time together and celebrate.

Children make gifts, cards and do the the household chores so that their mom can relax, for once.
