Why Ultra 2018 Was Absolutely Worth It

Ultra Music Festival is one of the world’s most famous after events, competing with legendary tours like Tomorrowland and the unique music festivals that each country, the festival takes place in, usually has. It was born in Miami, Florida, drawing the world’s biggest EDM names to play over three days of drinking, dancing and chasing the sun. However, in the last few years, Ultra has broadened its horizon to countries in Asia like Japan, Korea and of course Singapore. I myself love a music festival as much as the next girl, never bothered to go before this year, but was lucky enough to get offered a ticket, and I’m about to tell you why Ultra Singapore is worth every minute.

The first reason? The lineup itself, of course. I can’t even begin to tell you about all the cool experiences I had there without mentioning the reason it was great in the first place; the music. As someone who loves EDM, the headliners Ultra managed to snag for this year was impressive to say the least. In two days, I managed to see Nicky Romero, DJ Snake, afrojack, above & beyond, RL Grime, and my personal favourite, Steve Angello. They managed to put the perfect mix of all the different kinds of house, EDM and techno one might like with this lineup. Each artist had a different style than the next, and all with such well known and loved songs. Another reason Ultra 2018 really did it right music wise was the fact that they set up not one but two side stages, with famous acts like JOYRYDE playing for those more interested in trap or trance music, ensuring that everyone could have their fill.

Another reason Ultra was a better experience than another festival like ZoukOut would give you in Singapore, was how accessible it was. Im sure everyone, apart from those who live at Sentosa will agree that the most annoying part about ZoukOut is getting home at the end of each night. You end up waiting for hours, walking for ages and paying ridiculous taxi fees to get from the tiny island to a slightly bigger one and drive all the way back to Yishun or Pasir Ris where you live. Ultra’s strategic location right at Bayfront made it so much easier to get a taxi and cut down quite a bit of travel time. The fact that the festival began and ended so much earlier than ZoukOut even made it possible for some to take the train home, saving a fortune on cab fare.

Lastly, the reason Ultra 2018 was so worth it, was the vibe the whole music festival had. Everyone was dressed up in such fun and vibrant costumes, girls took the chance to put glitter and rhinestones all over their faces, and everyone was there purely to have a good time and experience some of the world’s best music acts. The atmosphere that brought is indescribable and is one you can’t imitate.

Therefore, even though I didn’t technically buy a ticket, it would have been worth every penny if I had, and I definitely will next year.
